Total Eclipse of the Bear

Well... did you see it??? Huh? Did you???
See what???...
The Eclipse of course!
We only had 89% of totality but... I made sure to order some special solar eclipse viewing filters a lonnng time ago. So I was ready!

This is a Bear Ear Eclipse of the Sun... heh heh!!

I've never seen a solar eclipse before! So I'm beary excited. Mama saw one in southern Mexico in 1991 and said it was beary cool... But that was a total eclipse and this is only 89%. If I had been thinking this through, I would have gone down to Oregon to visit Little Fox and view it from there!

Alright... the time approaches... I am ready!

Let the viewing begin!!

Oooh... ahhh... Mama didn't have special glasses, so she just stuck her cell phone up and made it take a picture but... that didn't work beary well..

Although in this one, you can see what looks like an upper right nibble getting taken out.

I... on the other hand, got a full, beautiful view!

Of this... oooohhh.... It did get quite a bit cooler and it was darker - but a weird kind of light... Very fascinating. Did you see the eclipse where you were?

Garden Status

Oh hello, Spooky and I are just admiring the garden from the deck.

It's looking pretty good...

Come on, let's go and check it out...

Bush beans are just getting started.

We tried Broad Beans this year... and they did OK...

But were real aphid attractors.

We've already been harvesting broccoli and... there are some side shoots coming now.

Garlic just got harvested...

And this is where the cabbage used to be...

We tried Summer Savoury this year... does anyone else use it?

Our potatoes are doing OK...

Our peas are almost done... so we are letting some go all the way to seed.

The Swiss Chard is growing like a weed.

Our carrots are doing OK too... and we planted some more.

Kale is still young.

Let's see... what else?

Oh yes... the raspberries!! They did really awesome this year! We had buckets and buckets...

But they are almost done and there are just a few stragglers.

Tomatoes are going well in the greenhouse...

And we have lots of cucumbers!

The basil is coming along...

We are trying eggplant this year but... so far there are lots of flowers and nothing else... sigh.

But there's a cucumber!

Oh, look... a bee!!! Jerry... follow it and let us know where the hive is!

Our Oriental Poppy smells soooo good... like freesias. Beautiful too!

We've also picked a bunch of lavender...

Of course, we have lots of sweetpeas...

That's the tour for today! Spooky says "Meow"!

BBQ with Grampa

Hullo... Chef Sandy here... we are having another barbeque... because it's summer you know... on the menu today we have...

Sandy's world-famous Rosemary-Chicken, slow-grilled to mouth-watering perfection. Guaranteed to please the palate of any bear, dog or fox... ahem...

We also have pan-fried potatoes...

Cucumber salad... made with cucumbers and dill from the garden.

And cabbage salad... made with cabbages and carrots from the garden...

Oh wait... was I supposed to give a drool warning at the start of this blog post... oops... OK... this is your official, belated drool warning...

Grampa thinks it looks delicious.

There we go... what do you think??? Dinner anyone?

Otto in his Element

Look!!! It's Otto!!! He came for a visit... Cool! I decided to take....

... Otto... err... Otto? Where are you going? "In the water. I'm a river otter and I have missed the river so much!!"

Well, yes, that's right... I took Otto to the cool blue swimming at the river because... well...

... there he goes... into the water...

Ummm... how long do otters stay underwater??

I know they can swim pretty far and fast underwater but...

Should I go in after him??

Wait a minute... do you see that big rock in the distance? In the middle of the river?

I think... yes... could it be? I think that is Otto!!!

Whew... good thing... because this little bear is not a great swimmer!

Hi Otto!!! Hmmm.... looks like he's having fun... I'm going to lie down...

Ahhh... I hope otters don't shake themselves like dogs do!!

Nope... otters are beary well-behaved. Time for some sun tanning...
