A New World Cemetery

Hullo!! I know, I know... it's been a few days since I last blogged! Oh... er... apparently a few WEEKS!! Sigh... good sekrebearies are super hard to find you know! Anyhow, Sullivan McPig has been having a grand time in Paris (France - cause there is one in Ontario, but I'm sure he's not there) and visiting cool cemeteries. Today, the rain finally let up and I dragged Mama on an expedition to the cemetery. I was looking forward to interesting headstones and sculptures but...
Yup, that's it... hardly any standing stones to speak of. Definitely not a good place to play hide and seek with your pals.

The groundkeepers had just recently mowed the lawn so a lot of the headstones were covered with clipped grass.

There are a few standing stones that are super old... like the late 1800s.

This one is from 1886 - that is beary old for Western Canada!! I think this used to be a standing stone but several decades ago, they laid a lot of them on the ground because it's easier to mow the lawn with flat stones. Speaking of lawn mowing...

I think it's about time our lawn got mowed!! Mama mowed it about a month ago (I know... this is a West Coast thing) but it is super long in spots! Our grass gets nice and green in the winter and dried out brown in the summer, sort of the opposite of other places in Canada!

  1. 1886 is beary old indeed. Our lawn needs mowing as well, ugh that is one bad thing about the spring in the Northwest.

    1. It is pretty old, isn't it? At least for out here. The good thing about summer in the Northwest is... unless you water your lawn (which we don't do)... you don't have to mow at all!

    2. Water the lawn? Ha ha ha. We never water the lawn either.

    3. Neither do our neighbours! Everybody just lets them go brown. Save the water for the garden!

    1. I know... the grass is like human hair. One day it's fine and the next it is way too long and moppish! Good thing we stuffies don't have this problem...

  3. You've already mowed your lawn?!?!? Jerry just stomped out of the room; he's a little upset. We do have a nice weekend, so we can rake all of the leaves off of the garden plots and see the very first plants peeking up. Some little bears are beary impatient to get back into the garden!

    1. Er... ***casual whistling while staring around the room innocently***... well, yes. We mowed it in late February/early March too I think. Heh-heh... Seriously, have you little bears considered that you are living in the wrong part of the continent?? I do think the Northwest climate is far more suited to Jerry and his gardening than the Midwest! Our tulips are almost ready to open...

    2. Mowed?!? February?!? That is just plain unfair! Well, anyway, we spent the day yesterday raking the garden beds and lawn...it was SO much work. We agree on the Northwest climate...Jerry would like to move there. Tulips?!? ready to open?!? (Jerry stomps off mumbling something...)

    3. I know... buy you know what they say - life isn't fair. At least not for little bears! We are going for a little hike today (sunshine!) and tomorrow it's into the garden to plant more seeds.

  4. Wow. If that grass were any longer, you could get lost in it! Be cautious...

    1. Good point!! In some places it was over 6" tall!! Mama had to use the weed-whacker on it first otherwise the lawnmower would have choked. A little bear could get lost in there... maybe Crocodile Dogdee could help navigate??

    2. Crocodile Dogdee would be happy to help navigate. Just say the word and I'll get my machete, mate.
