A Bear Takes Matters into His Own Paws

Oh hello... yes, we are driving... another road trip. But this time, I am directing things. The humans are hopeless when it comes to preparations!

Yes... you humans!! Keep driving...

No... I am NOT telling you where we are going! (Sorry... that's directed at the humans, not you my stuffie pals!).

grrrr... keep going... up and over the Malahat Pass...

Ahhhh... here we are...  Yup... this little bear went online, arranged a few things, forged a few signatures, pilfered a few bank accounts (I am not Sherlock Bear for nothing you know)... and.. voila...

 Our very own camper mobile!!!

 What do you think???

It's a 1986 VW vanagon in pristine condition... sometimes a bear just has to move things along, you know...

And after all that hard work... I deserve a honey beer!

And maybe my human staff could make me a fire???

And prepare the sleeping accommodation...

Ahhh.. that's better...

It's so calm and peaceful in the forest...

Nice fire!

And then it was time for bed... sigh... this is the life!

Oh... humans?? Well... you guys can sleep "upstairs"...

Yup... up here... off you go!

West Coast Beaches - Part 2

Groan... ugh... OK... sleeping in the back of the truck was NOT a good idea! Yes, it was an adventure and YES, adventure is my middle name but... it rained as well and the windows had be open a bit and a bit of rain got in and... well... let's just say, next time, I will put my little bear foot down and veto crazy ideas!

Anyhow... this morning we are going to another beach... this one is called Mystic Beach and it is a bit of a hike... and the morning mist does make it look.. .well... Mystical!

These are second-growth trees... the original ones were logged decades ago. Trees grow fast out here!

This trail is interesting because it has a suspension bridge!!! People pay big money to go across Capilano Suspension Bridge in Vancouver and... this one is free!!

Any dizzy stuffies out there? I know a certain mouse who might squeak a bit at the notion of this!

You can see right through!

 There are neat boardwalks too...

And finally... the beach!!!

People like to make little inukshuks here apparently.

There is a waterfall too... but it was just a trickle...

The sandstone cliffs are undercut in places which means you can find some shelter from the rain...

And at the other side of the beach...

A cove with MORE inukshuks... tonnes more!

 Spot the bear??

 It's cool!

And, because it's low tide, there is an arch that is exposed which leads to....

A hollowed out cave!

Neat... you wouldn't want to be caught in here when the tide is rising though!

This beach is the start of the Juan de Fuca trail, a 47 km trail that heads north to Port Renfrew along the coast. It's sort of like the Pacific Rim Trail (or West Coast Trail) but newer and not as frequented. It's also easier to do short segments... maybe one day...

OK... time to head back... carry me???

One more stop at the suspension bridge...

Wheee!!!!

One last stop before we head home... a place called Juan de Fuca River... there's a tiny campground here with a river nearby...

I think we should come here and camp... just well-equipped... with more than the back of the truck...

Beaches of the West Coast

Well... to continue our interrupted road trip... we drove down the coast a ways and headed for China Beach. I think this is beary appropriate since we also visited China Beach in Vietnam!!

The trail wasn't beary long or steep... hurry up people!

Oooh... I think we are almost there!!

Yes!!! I see ocean!!!

Oh boy, oh boy...

Wow... like... wow....

This is awesome!

There are kelp beds offshore and lots of kelp gets washed up. The water looks so inviting...

Maybe I should take a dip?

Hmmm... waves... not good... By the way, that's the Olympic Peninsula in the distance in Washington State. I wonder if Little Fox has been there?

I'll just try it with the tippy-toe of my bear claw... and... it is beary cold!!! Mama says it is ankle-numbing cold! No wonder surfers wear wet suits up at Long Beach... brrrr... not like China Beach in Vietnam at all!

But the kelp is nice...

Sooo... it was a long day and... Mama said we were doing things "spontaneously"... uh-huh... Miss Trip Advisor and spontaneity do NOT go together...

Anyhow... after a bit of searching, the humans realized that places down here go for $250 a night... plus tax!!! Ridiculous! I thought we could head back home but... first we had a picnic dinner...

Mmmm... hummus, sausage rolls, veggies, bbq salmon and a variety of other nibbles from the local grocery store. I approve!!

Sooo... are we leaving now??? What do you mean, "No"??????

OK... the humans have lost it... they have decided to camp out in the back of the SUV... they even bought some sheets... (seriously... snowflakes in September???)

And an inflatable mattress... oh boy...

Ummmmm... sure... this looks like fun... uh-huh... Do you think they are pulling my leg???

Oh great, now the sun is setting... I think they are serious!!

Wish me luck stuffies...
